The warning covers Niagara, Orleans, northern Erie, and Genesee counties and will remain in place from 11 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday.
Affected cities include Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Batavia.
Temperatures are expected to drop into the upper 20s and near 30, with the exception of areas near the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline, according to the National Weather Service. «The coldest temperatures are expected further away from the immediate Lake Ontario shoreline,» it said Sunday.
Frost and freeze conditions could impact crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing.
«To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing,» the NWS said.
